Company first, then the premium

The Wheel strategy is first and foremost a calm cash-flow strategy – not a chase for the biggest number.

Option-writing premiums as income

By selling puts and calls you collect option-writing premiums – documented cycle by cycle. Not gambling, but income you can check at any time.

Check the company first

Fundamentals, earnings and dividend dates in one place. So you only work with companies you'd still want to hold even if the shares were assigned to you.

You stay in control

Connected to your account read-only, no automatic orders, no recommendations. WheelTrading shows the facts – the decision stays yours.

Four steps to predictable cash flow

How the Wheel strategy works in practice:

  1. 1
    Step 1

    Sell a cash-secured put

You sell a put on a quality company you'd be glad to hold anyway. The option-writing premium is credited to your account immediately and is available again from day 1.

  2. 2
    Step 2

    Wait: expiry or assignment

If the option expires worthless, you keep the premium in full and sell the next put right away. On assignment, you take the shares at the price agreed in advance (strike). To lower your entry price further, you can sell another put at a lower strike – or already write a covered call in parallel.

  3. 3
    Step 3

    Sell a covered call

On the shares now in your account, you sell covered calls above your entry price. This earns you option-writing premiums again; if the call is exercised above your entry price, an additional price gain can arise. If the company pays a dividend and you hold the shares on the ex-date, you receive that too. This combines several cash-flow building blocks into one overall result.

  4. 4
    Step 4

    The circle closes

If the call is exercised, your shares are automatically sold at the exercise price agreed in advance (strike). Any price gain up to the strike is realised and the capital you deployed becomes free again. The cycle is complete – you can now start over with a new put.

The highest option-writing premiums often appear on extremely volatile stocks. But a high premium is worth little without a stock that has real substance. With WheelTrading you first calmly analyse the company's fundamentals – and decide for yourself which quality companies fit your portfolio.

These are real exchange-traded options on regulated derivatives exchanges – not certificate trading and not products issued by the provider.

Note: option strategies carry risk of substantial loss up to total loss. WheelTrading.io is not investment advice.

Without the right software, it's busywork

A Wheel cycle often spans weeks and covers many individual stages: from selling the put through a possible assignment and dividend payments to the covered call. Without the right tool, you quickly lose track between your broker account, option chains, fundamentals and your own spreadsheets. WheelTrading bundles your entire process in one central place.

  • Full control & overview

See at a glance how your Wheel strategy affects your portfolio.

  • Flexible analysis

The return you achieved per trade, over flexible periods, per company, per strategy or by dividends received – cleanly visualised.

  • Personal notes

Capture your thoughts and learnings on every trade and make sense of your history at any time later.

Portfolio cockpit

Profit and loss, open positions, cash reserve and margin usage – automatically combined from your account and the trades you record.

More than just numbers – a full overview for your risk management:

  • Portfolio composition & diversification: Spot concentration risks at sector or single-stock level before they become a problem.
  • Trading calendar (90-day preview): Keep upcoming option expiries, ex-dividend days and earnings dates on your radar in advance.
  • Dividend monitor: Track your passive income and how it affects your overall return.

Market & sector heatmap

The market overview bundles sectors, volatility and key macro signals in one place – so you see the big picture before you dive into the detail.

Orientation for spreading across sectors:

  • Sector heatmap (11 sectors): See at a glance which sectors are currently strong or weak – a basis for deliberately diversifying your portfolio.
  • Market barometer: VIX, Fear & Greed, rates, gold, oil and more – key market indicators laid out clearly and legibly in one place.
  • Hot news & earnings: Important market news and upcoming quarterly (earnings) dates compactly in one place.

Company analysis

Before you write a put, calmly check whether a company fits your strategy – with fundamentals, dividends and dates in one place.

Spot quality before you trade:

  • Fundamental metrics & balance-sheet health: Earnings power, debt and other figures – so you can assess a company's substance yourself.
  • Dividends & earnings: Dividend history, payout dates and quarterly (earnings) dates at a glance.
  • Pros & cons plus price metrics: AI-assistedFactual pro and con points, price history and volatility – a neutral basis for your own decision.
