Hot News
Top market headlines plus news on your symbols, with multi-device synchronized read marks. Open via Market → Hot News or the bottom tab bar.
Tabs
- General / Forex / Crypto / M&A - classic market news from Finnhub
(/news endpoint), 5-minute cache.
- My Symbols - news on every underlying from:
- Portfolio (active positions),
- Watchlist (default watchlist),
- Custom (freely configurable list, persisted on the server so it
looks the same on every device).
Each source has its own chip toggle. Time range switches between 1 / 3 / 7 / 14 / 30 days.
Read marks
- Clicking a headline opens the article in a new tab and **auto-marks it
as read**.
- Each card has a „✓ mark read / read" button (toggle).
- „Mark all read" in the top right marks everything visible at once.
- „Unread only" filters read items out.
- Marks live in the database, so they sync across phone, desktop and
tablet. Marks are auto-cleaned after 90 days.
Source and prerequisites
- Source: Finnhub. Each user's own Finnhub API key
is used (set under Settings → External API keys). The free plan is sufficient.
- Cache: 5 minutes in process per symbol / category. The Refresh
button forces a fresh fetch.
- Without a key the list stays empty and a hint links straight to the
settings page.
Automatic translation (DeepL, optional)
Finnhub delivers headlines and summaries in English. If you have a DeepL API key stored under Settings → External API keys and the app is set to German, WheelTrading automatically translates each card's title and summary to German.
- No extra toggle is required — storing the DeepL key counts as your
opt-in.
- When translation was applied, a subtle notice is shown above the
list: „Headlines and summaries were auto-translated via DeepL".
- The original article behind the linked title stays in its
original language. For legally or trade-relevant details please always check the original text.
- Translations are cached for 24 hours by content hash — DeepL
usage stays low.
- If DeepL fails (quota exhausted, invalid key, etc.), WheelTrading
falls back to the original English text — the news list stays visible.
Example workflow
- Pick the My Symbols tab.
- Keep Portfolio and Watchlist enabled; under Custom add e.g.
AAPL, MSFT, NVDA via the pencil icon.
- Set the range to 3 days.
- Read through the headlines in the morning - every click auto-marks
the item as read.
- Use „Mark all read" to clear the rest in one go.
- In the evening on your phone, read items are already greyed out.
Plan note
- Available in every plan (no plan gating).
- Limits: max. 25 watched symbols per fetch, max. 100 in the Custom
list; Finnhub's free rate limit (60 calls/min) is virtually unreachable thanks to the 5-minute cache.
