Diversification preview after assignment

Before you send a short option to IBKR/Lynx, the "Send order to IBKR" dialog now has a "Diversification preview after assignment" button. It opens a what-if view: how would your concentration risk (per symbol and per sector) change IF this short option were assigned at expiry?

Why

If all your L1 slots are filled and you can only keep going via L2, a future assignment can quietly tilt your portfolio toward one sector. The preview shows that before the order is even live in the market.

What you see

  • Symbol concentration before / after as a table with the delta in

percentage points. Traffic light: 🟢 below 20 %, 🟡 20-30 %, 🔴 from 30 % upward.

  • Sector concentration before / after. Traffic light: 🟢 below 30

%, 🟡 30-40 %, 🔴 from 40 % upward.

  • A summary banner: green (no worsening), yellow (concentration

rising), red (new concentration risk).

  • Rows that get worse are highlighted in a light rose tint with a

small warning icon.

Value basis (identical to the Cockpit "Diversification Risk" panel)

  • Stocks: shares x current price (fallback entry price).
  • Short puts: strike x 100 x quantity (cash reserve obligation).
  • Hypothetical PUT assignment: + strike x 100 x quantity on the

symbol/sector (shares are put to you).

  • Hypothetical CALL assignment: - strike x 100 x quantity (shares are

called away at the strike).

  • Percentage denominator: account net liquidation value.

Extra gate when sending

If the preview produces a new concentration risk (symbol > 30 % or sector > 40 %), the Send button stays locked until you

  1. opened the preview at least once, and
  2. tick the additional checkbox "I have seen the preview and accept

the elevated concentration risk ...".

If concentration only rises (e.g. 🟢 -> 🟡), Send remains enabled - you still see the yellow "concentration rising" badge as a gentle nudge.

Tips

  • The preview also tells you which sector tips over - often it's

enough to switch the underlying to an under-represented sector to get back to green.

  • The preview always uses the current NLV - if you leave the proposal

as a draft for a while, the view may shift slightly between clicks.

  • Other open proposals on the same symbol are NOT counted as

additional assignments in this preview. If you plan parallel L2 orders on the same symbol, factor those in mentally.

  • Your personal sector limits (warn/hard, defaults 20 % / 30 %)

are covered in the topic Sector concentration & cluster risk. That page also documents the what-if calculator on the company page - you can use it before you even open the send dialog.
